03Verifying Who You Are Talking To
- Request a short live video call early. Fraudulent accounts almost always decline or produce technical excuses.
- Run a reverse image search on their photographs; stock or influencer imagery is a decisive red flag.
- Check that professional claims are consistent — a claimed fund principal should have a verifiable public footprint.
- Look for the verification badge on the profile, and remember it confirms review, not a guarantee of wealth.
- Ask a spontaneous, specific question about their city or industry; scripted operators answer vaguely.
04Protecting Your Financial Privacy
- Never discuss account balances, holdings, wallet addresses, custodians or advisers in chat.
- Do not photograph documents, statements, screens or anything showing an account number.
- Disable location metadata on your camera before uploading any image.
- Use a dedicated e-mail address for dating that is not linked to your company, bank or brokerage.
